INSP 'Focus on Africa' 2006-2008

In recent years, street papers have become increasingly recognised for their relevance to the developing world. By combining a sustainable social enterprise model with an independent media voice, street papers provide a unique means to address urgent needs for poverty reduction, economic development, and free expression in some of the poorest countries on Earth. In response to increasing enquiries from local organisations seeking to establish street papers in their communities, INSP now places a special emphasis on consultancy, training, and project management for street paper development in Africa.

INSP has helped to establish 2 new street papers in Kenya and Zambia in 2007, supporting more than 300 homeless people back into work. INSP also provided strategic training to the newly formed 'Big Issue Ethiopia' and is now working directly with an organisation in Lagos to set up Nigeria's first ever street paper. INSP aims to help establish at least 2 more street papers in African countries by June 2008.
