"Street papers give people
an income, but the issue of global poverty is bigger than a lack
of individual jobs. There is a need to focus on quality content
and provide an alternative voice in the media. INSP's 'Street
News Service' allows local papers to internationalise content
while helping papers to reduce costs through copy sharing."
Paula Mathieu,
Former Board director INSP (1998-2006)
The Street News Service (SNS) project is a key part of INSP's effort to build a strong and united anti-poverty movement. As an innovative online news agency, the SNS provides a unique forum for street papers to exchange editorial content and photographs, supporting the development of individual street papers and bringing local perspectives on poverty and injustice to an international audience.
The SNS aims to:
Strengthen the capacity of local street papers
worldwide.
Create an independent, grassroots media platform
from the unique perspective of the world's street papers.
Promote the concept of fair and truthful news to the reading public worldwide.
Increase coverage of important, social news and features online and in print publications.
