Religion on the brink

At the edge of the world sits Svalbard, the site of civilisations northernmost church. This place of worship was inaugurated in 1957, after the old church from 1921 was burned down during the Second World War. Svalbard church is made of wood and has 140 seats. The Church has a mixed congregation and cooperates with The Russian Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church in Norway to serve Russian and Polish settlers.
