The International Network of Street Papers

Enterprising Solutions to Poverty

The International Network of Street Papers (INSP) is a global engine for local poverty solutions across the globe.

  • INSP supports street paper projects worldwide to create employment for homeless people. The network connects over 100 street papers in some 40 countries and supports new projects in the developing world. Working locally with NGOs and other bodies, INSP works effectively within its own niche as an umbrella organisation. Through the network, street paper members receive advice, training, consultancy and access to funding, and benefit from sharing resources, experiences and mentoring.
  • Street papers are independent newspapers and magazines that provide unique employment opportunities and enterprising social programmes for people experiencing poverty and homelessness. Vendors buy copies of the street paper at a price of 50% or lower than the cover price, then sell the street papers, keeping the proceeds. In addition to employment, many INSP street papers offer their vendors ongoing social support.
  • INSP has assisted over 200,000 poor and homeless street paper vendors since 1994, with a particular focus on the developing world. In many cases, street paper vendors use their earned income to provide for their families.
  • INSP also acts as a united voice against poverty and injustice. INSP street papers are an important media resource with a combined readership of 5 - 7 million per edition. Through a strong network, INSP is able to act as a global platform for unheard voices and advocate for the needs and the rights of people living in poverty.

INSP - working to build a more educated, engaged and equitable global society... one street paper at a time.
